In a Holidaze 4⭐️/5
In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren
4⭐️/5
This was my first Christina Lauren book and I was thrilled to finally read this duo’s hilarious and heartwarming rom com. I’m shocked how much I enjoyed this one, I think I am going to call it this year on holiday books now because I want to end on a high note!
I thought the basic premise was a tired one: picturesque Utah cabin at Christmastime meets Groundhog’s Day, but I was surprised when I discovered the with witty dialogue and romantic relationships that don’t sound like two cardboard cutouts talking to each other (looking at you Hallmark Christmas movies that I love but also hate!)
Things I loved:
1. A holiday book that really leans into the holidays, it’s not just set around this time of year, but you are with this crew as they open presents, have Christmas dinner, and do other holiday-themed activities
2. The writing! It could just be low expectations for holiday books (yikes), but I really enjoyed the witty banter between Mae and her family and friends at the cabin (and her love interest), I disappeared in the fun of it all!
3. The romance itself was tender, sweet, and lovely, exactly what you want in a rom com!
Things that I didn’t care for:
The time loop was such a creative idea, but felt a bit rushed and an afterthought at a certain point
A few too many characters. This story is about family and friends that gather out of tradition every year, but even by the end I thought, “Who is this again??”
