Not that anyone asked, but this is not a Christmas read (I don’t think it claims to be) but it is a cozy December read! I was amazed at how much I liked this one, and how quickly I flew through it once I started!
I thought this would be wildly predictable, and in some ways the plot follows a path you’d expect, but in many ways, I was surprised at how emotional this book was and how complex the characters were.
I’ve loved the secondary character development, authentic friendships, family heartache, growing older, difficult decisions, and romance of all kinds. The author takes you through ten years of life, love, and humor. You watch as Laurie, Sarah, and Jack all grow into who they are and who they were always meant to be.
I enjoyed the multiple POV of Laurie and Jack, though, I never quite warmed to Jack. I will say of all the characters, his observations and interpretations of Laurie and his predicament did not come off well at all. Not that I *need* to swoon over the MC, but I mean, a little would have been nice.
I’d say don’t take this one too seriously, and if you’re not a fan of “insta love” this is not for you! It’s lighthearted in many ways, but not in a way that feels overly done.
