Unbound: My Story of Liberation and the Birth of the Me Too Movement 5⭐️/5
In this courageous, eye-opening story, we learn about the woman behind the words “me too” before she could even say them herself: the activist, the young Catholic girl, the bold college student, the mother, the organizer, the camp leader, and, ultimately, the survivor.
Verity 4⭐️/5
Verity by Colleen Hoover - Despite my best efforts not to lose sleep, Verity still managed to sufficiently creep me out. It’s relentlessly bold, twisted, consuming, and manipulative but turns out I’m okay with it?
Red Queen 2⭐️/5
I picked it up because I wanted to read a more contemporary YA fantasy, but it unfortunately under delivered despite all of the potential (a power struggle! A class warfare! A rebellion! Surprise powers!)
We Were Liars 2⭐️/5
I really really wanted to like this book. I think the premise is a good one and I was hooked initially. Between the family history and connections to one another, a secluded island, the young (perhaps untrustworthy) protagonist, all things that make for a compelling novel.
It Ends With Us 5⭐️/5
Book Review of Colleen Hoover's remarkable bestseller, "It Ends With Us." A deeply emotional and at times heartbreaking story about love and the ways it shapes us and breaks us.
The Last Thing He Told Me 3⭐️/5
This was a really solid 3.5 stars for me. If I’d read it during the hype, I can see how disappointment would have been unavoidable because it’s definitely not a thriller, and it’s not entirely a family drama either. It does, however, have something I’ve found I adore in novels - fantastic pacing.
Homegoing 5⭐️/5
This book captivated me. Reading the synopsis, I wasn’t sure how one manages to tell eight generations worth of story, eight generations worth of suffering, suppression, legacy, history, and heart. Yaa Gyasi does that and more.
Circe 5⭐️/5
Before I read “Song of Achilles,” I was introduced to the brilliant, stylistic storytelling of Madeline Miller through the eyes of our multifaceted heroine, Circe.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo 5⭐️/5
You’re a 35-year-old journalist, recently divorced, and not exactly on a winning streak when one of the greatest, most glamorous Hollywood Stars to ever live has come out of retirement for an interview, and she refuses to have anyone interview her but you.
The Guest List 3⭐️/5
Lucy Foley’s 2020 novel, “The Guest List” is a mystery/thriller that takes place on an island off the coast of Ireland for the wedding of handsome TV star, and all-too-perfect Groom, and his Bride, the fiercely ambitious magazine editor. Only, the island has an unsettling history, and everyone on it is plagued with secrets.
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine 5⭐️/5
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely find is charming, heartbreaking, smart, poignant, and the kind of story where I found myself cheering for every win and wiping a tear away at every loss.
Dune 4.5⭐️/5
My entire review could be summarized as follows: GEORGE LUCAS Y YOU NO COME UP WITH YOUR OWN IDEAS??
A Good Marriage 3.5⭐️/5
I thoroughly enjoyed the mastery and complexity of legal language from former lawyer and author to this gripping novel, Kimberley McCreight. Though by the end, it felt a bit convoluted, like it was trying to be too clever at times.
Cilka’s Journey 4⭐️/5
Cilka’s Journey is a poignant, heartbreaking, unsettling, and thought-provoking story of what it takes to survive. Even if it’s not entirely biographical, it is representative of the experiences of so many.
A Man Called Ove 4.5⭐️/5
This book has so much heart. You belong to these characters and they belong to you. I actually saw something at the store I thought one of the characters would like and I REMEMBERED THEY ARE NOT REAL.
The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle 4.5⭐️/5
This was a JOY to read. I hate to admit it, but there are times I flip ahead to see what happens because I’ve developed a pathetically short attention span, but I resisted the urge and I’m SO GLAD I DID.
The Dutch House 4⭐️/5
Ann Patchett is masterful with language, carefully inviting the reader into an unconventional family dynamic (as only she could!).
